Probably the highest praise I can give it is that it wasn't as dreadful as it sounds from the premise. A lot of good performances, but couldn't anyone find a better use for these actors?

Unique and interesting portrayal of how a depressed man and his family cope with his illness. A good drama that handles the material in a positive way and is acted convincingly by Gibson.

Meredith (Foster) let’s his husband, Walter Black (Gibson) is a miserable CEO of a toy company, out of their home. Walter gets a beaver puppet from a trash bin and suddenly his life is transformed. The Beaver takes over the company and introduces himself to everyone as “The Beaver.” Porter is not happy when his father goes back because of their strenuous relationship. Porter and Henry get close, he gets caught for vandalism. Jerry Co. becomes on top. Two things standout, a sensational performance from Mel Gibson and delightful direction from Jodie Foster. Its plot maybe unbelievable but the screenplay was effective. Had a few good lines from the picture: The Beaver/Walter – “Everybody needs a friend Walter.” “I’m not a puppet.
