Zeugen

Blue Valentine review

“You gotta be careful with that. You gotta be careful with the person you fall in love is worth it... to you.” The movie focuses on a married couple, Dean Pereira (Gosling) and Cynthia "Cindy" Heller (Williams) with their joys and struggles. Its highlights were the character development (must watch scene with Gosling singing and playing the ukulele and Williams dances and as charming as ever/the heartbreaking scene in the end), authentic screenplay and impressive camera direction. Ryan Gosling shows potential in dramas while Michelle Williams exhibited the best performance of her career and was duly noted in the Academy Awards for her nomination. The pair really conveyed as a couple onscreen was believable which keeps the viewer interested about the outcome. It’s overall plot …

A fascinating, tragic, realistic love.

Since I recently re-watched The Place Beyond the Pines (great movie), I thought I'd share my thoughts on director Derek Cianfrance's first directorial effort: Blue Valentine.
A lot of people have pointed out that even though the title is associated with Valentine's Day, and it is technically a romance movie, beware: do not watch this film if you want to have fun. And whatever you do, don't watch it with your date. If you're looking for a romantic comedy, look somewhere else.
Blue Valentine is an awe-inspiring movie, and that's saying something, because it starts out as just a romance.
But the way this story is told and the film is directed always keeps you on the virtual hook and in love with the characters.
It's told in non-chronological order, something a lot of screenwriters …

Spoiler alert - it's sad

The movie that Revolutionary Road tried to be (you see, you have to show the couple HAPPY at some point to feel sorry for them!) is on display here, as we see two young individuals fall in love quickly, get married, only to have the marriage slowly dissolve. I thought Michelle Williams really stood out here, as her character's hopelessness, insecurity, and frustration were downright believable. Ryan Gosling is okay, but he eventually retreats into his standard indie-hipster-quirky character. The director resorts to some gimmicks to try and make things stand out (hand held cam! hipster music!) and the worst of all is the ad-libibng. I think the film would have been better served with a more concrete script as some scenes just get a little out of control, such as the …

This film is just...Spectacular

You can believe this or not, what attracted me to this film was watching Ryan Gosling play the ukele for Michelle WIlliams, and seeing her dance. I know that that shouldn't be a reason to view a film, but watching the other sequences in the trailer made me realize that this was going to be a very strong film. I know it was going to be a film that would question my ideals on relationships and how we view them now-a-days, and I was right. This film did everything right, I mean the acting, the film shots, the music. It felt as if you weren't watching a film at all. It felt as if you were a voyeur in the lives of two people that lost faith in eachother. Williams did a wonderful job, and Gosling was amazing. The film is very hard to watch because we usually don't like to sit through a …

Men Are Better at Romance Than Women

"Blue Valentine" is unlike other films of its genre (the modern relationship struggle genre, that is) in the sense that it didn't try to demonize any one partner over the other. There are moments more frustrating than others, where we feel the plight of both partners collectively - but the film grapples with emotional traumas and unfounded processes of decision-making. For most of the film, we feel like Michelle Williams' character, Cynthia, is being less than zealous in trying to make her relationship stand the test of time, but we understand that she made rash decisions that she wishes with all her soul she could take back. Ryan Gosling's performance as a devoted father and husband who feels the tension, which makes him feel less than adequate is nothing less than superb. A truly …

Real

One of the best movies of 2010. Great performance as always by Ryan Gosling. He is a top of the line actor that knows how to choose his roles. Michelle Williams is OK but mostly plays a bitch. I can't tell if this is how she is in real life or just in every single one of her roles.
The story is real and is probably a depiction in many people's lives in America. I feel sorry for these characters. I am also angry at these characters.
If you want to watch a real life drama about the ins and outs of a relationship, this is for you. Move over Revolutionary Road, this one is more real than you ever could be (though I like RR better for other reasons). Great music, great setting and perfectly cut. It is different than many movies you have seen.
So the NC-17 rating....not seeing any …
