You Sunk My Faith In Movie Making
Taz - wrote on 02/17/2013
Wow this movie was every bit the epic fail I thought it would be. The story, the dialog, the acting, the directing, the pure idea that this could be a good movie all horrible. The special effects were ok but that can hardly save a movie this bad. I found my self often wondering how this movie even got made. It makes me worry about the people who make the decision about what movies get made. I think I would like to try and sell them a bridge i have, or a movie about a bridge I have.
I can't even begin to explain all the horrible things that happen in this movie so here are a few highlights.
The main Character, Alex Hopper, is a complete screw up at the open of the movie and getts arrested for breaking into a connivence store. Fast forward a few years and he is a high enough ranking …

Battleship review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 08/17/2012
A mix of Independence Day premise, alien suits similar to Ironman/StarWars, Hunt for Red October moments and Titanic like sequences. Dialogue was horrendous/cheesy and some scenes were just baffling (the veterans suddenly comes out and emulates a scene from Armaggedon, the Japanese captain predicted when to hit after missing twice, how the aliens were easily beaten and that sensors detect concrete structures as threats, how the leads survive a sinking ship, etc. The North Koreans and Chinese were subtly mentioned negatively and the patriotism was too overwhelming. No hints or explanations of the aliens real intent and shows how humans are violent intead of approaching them peacefully. On a positive note, the effects were realistic, soundtrack was rockin with the aid of AC-DC, action …

Too much patriotism for my liking!!

Ever play the Hasbro game Battleship? With all the little white and red pegs that show hits and misses on a sea of blue that resembles a radar screen? Well believe it or not this is all incorporated into 'Battleship The Movie' . Cliched patriotic cheese and without spoiling the ending.. Un bearable US patriotic cheese!! I will give the film it's dues however as it had it's moments, where even i was like ok that was cool if only the rest of the film could've been as good we would have a real contender for the best movie of 2012 list. Not a bad cast i might say with Taylor Kitsch playing our cheif hero in this a much better performance then when he portrayed John Carter in that earlier dreadful film.
Round off the rest of the cast with Liam Neeson, Rihanna (In her not so flattering …

Battleship is the latest Hasbro-associated film (others include the Transformers movies and G.I. Joe), starring Taylor Kitsch (John Carter), Liam Neeson (everything awesome), and Rihanna (!?). It's written by Jon and Erich Hoeber and directed by Peter Berg (director of Hancock). Battleship is, of course, based on the very fun game. The difference is that the film has aliens that come to earth, create a shield surrounding Hawaii and a chunk of the ocean, locking themselves and five other battleships inside. Noone can come in or get out. The aliens are here because... well, I don't know. It's never really explained. And the humans and aliens battle each other and there's lots of loud explosions and crashing metal that the filmmakers think is fun. The board game is much more fun.

Battleship Barely Manages to Stay Afloat
Chris Kavan - wrote on 05/21/2012
Ever since Battleship was announced, I had major reservations about it. The idea of basing an entire movie off a board game seems ludicrous (but then again, so does basing an entire movie off a pirate ride at an amusement park - and that has played out pretty good so far). But Peter Berg wasn't backing down - action, action and throw in some aliens - and more action - a typical big-budget summer flick, right?
Yet as much as I was looking forward to thrashing this film - in the end, it really wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I mean, from the trailers it looked like an extension of Transformers - and, that's pretty much how it ended up feeling. Lots of explosions and fighting and aliens doing bad things - just replace them with transforming vehicles, and you would never tell the …

OK popcorn movie

Movie is okay - definitely not dumb as Transformers, has decent action and effects, interesting somewhat convincing navy terminology and background (for those interested), and surprisingly high level of respect for other nations - story happens during the forgot-the-exact-name international Naval Games - and even for the aliens, I dare say. Story is childishly simple, but does not undermine the intelligence of the viewer as Transformers did - simply said, this is a popcorn movie just like Independence Day. Not so strong in character development, but equally entertaining. As for Rihanna, I have nothing against her, she can act, sure, but to be honest, it was hard to imagine that fragile girl as a tough marine. Anywhere else I believe she would be good - here the role just didn't fit her.
