Prequel that has some refreshing elements

It is party time! A prequel now! Monsters University has come onboard by Pixar and Scanlon. Pixar knows Scanlon as their story artist since Cars and Toy Story 3. Now he has a big job. He has to direct a prequel of Monsters Inc. For those who have watched Monsters Inc, there are no big surprises, as we know that both Mike and Sullivan are the best friends. But now they are in the university, to scare people. Hey is this necessary? I am doubting too much on this question. What’s the point of this prequel ? Monsters University is made for money. I am serious folks. No joking here. Did Pixar believe that all might have not seen Monsters Inc? If then, Monsters University should have come first and then Monsters Inc would have made it somewhat better. But vice versa does not quite work. But …

Monsters University review

The film evolves around Mike and Sulley's adventure in Monsters University. It starts of slow then it becomes interesting especially during the plot twist where you would think everything is alright with Mike's ability to scare. The background characters were funny, soundtrack was apt and screenplay though more serious than Monsters Inc., was still entertaining. It's great to see more depth between the friendship of our protagonists and its enticing how they all started. Animation was smooth as always coming from Pixar. Overall, a lot can be picked-up for both kids and adults alike such as friendship, honesty, hard-work, companionship, and cooperation. Not as funny or better than Monsters Inc., still way better than most animated flicks of the year.

An Origin Story Worthy of the Pixar Name

I admit that I have always admired Pixar because of their ability to create quality original films. Wall E, The Incredibles and Up are not just among my favorite animated films - but they are just some of the best films around. Recently there has been a rash of sequels (both released and upcoming) and I also admit it was a bit worrying. I thought the Toy Story movies continued to get better and better, but I didn't think many other films needed any more help. Monsters University isn't a sequel, it's a prequel and, I'm happy to say, it continues the Pixar tradition of having a strong story, incredible animation and top-notch talent involved all-around.

Monsters Inc. pretty much spells out that although Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sully (John Goodman) are good friends - they may have not …

A Rare Quality Prequel

Pixar was once a huge deal. They were huge innovators in the field of feature animation, and their early films, especially Toy Story, reinvented how studios look at family films. Nowadays, unfortunately, Pixar is a brilliant innovator in name only; they still present awesome visuals, and occasionally above par stories, but they are no longer going were no animation studio has gone before.

Monsters University may not be a new American classic, but I really like it. The movie, despite its prequel status and occasionally predictable script, works surprisingly well. It tries to hard to create tension despite these facts, and often succeeds, creating an interesting duel character study and showing how Mike and Sulley became friends.

What really tips the scales in Monsters …

Continues Pixar's Extensive Winning Streak

Almost 13 years ago, I, for the first time, stepped into a movie theater and saw the film, Monsters Inc. I scarcely remember the experience itself, but having seen the movie so many times since, the film has stayed with me. Personally, I think Monsters Inc. is the definition of a perfect film. It's one of the funniest and most original films I've ever seen, has one of the best movie endings (or quite possibly the best) I've ever witnessed, and I'll admit, I've never seen the film once without shedding a tear at some point or another.

Sadly, after being nominated for the first ever Academy Award for Best Animated Film, it lost to Dreamworks' Shrek, a decision that I think everyone is trying their best to forget. Depending on who you talk to, Monsters Inc. is considered one of …
