Creative Revival of an Otherwise Dying Series
JmsWlkns - wrote on 01/02/2014
No matter how good a Bond film made nowadays is, it will never live up to the standards of the massive series of films the character has produced. However, Skyfall is the closest thing we will ever get. That is not a bad thing though, as Skyfall is one of the best pure action films I have seen in a long time (since 2010, only "Drive" (2011), and "Inception" (2010) have been better, and that is great company to be in).
The best quality of the film is the creativity of its action sequences. Sure, the Bond films have always contained highly unusual, and often impractical chase and fight scenes, and Skyfall starts out with the same, however, if another Bond film had the guts to pull out the plot twist you see a mere 10-15 minutes in, I haven't seen it. Among other points of interest are a …

James Bond is back!

Skyfall is the most recent tale of our beloved British secret agent 007. After Bond is thought to have died a person from the past comes out of the shadows to wreck havoc on Agent M and the rest of MI 6. Now Bond has come out of retirement to help save the day. This is a fine film. It's paced well and shot beautifully by the extremely talented Rodger Deakens. From a beautiful fight scene in a tall hotel to a show down at a farm house in rural Scotland it's a majesty to behold. The writing is probably the most unique and well carried out part of the film. And the way Sam Mendes brings the writing to the screen is even better. The idea of having Bond face a human whose soul intent to crush Bond's body and soul and not the entire world or huge ice caps is a fantastic change of scenery. The …

"Skyfall" by Yojimbo

James Bond is presumed KIA on a mission but is lured back into service by an elaborate cyber-terrorist threat targeting MI6 itself. Skyfall seems to begin as yet another "evil hacker takes over the world with his dastardly laptop" story that has become as tedious as it is ubiquitous in this day and age. Combining this concept with the old "I'm too old for this shit" theme that first reared its head in the Lethal Weapon franchise and some moments of irrelevant Bond totty and cheesy quips and I feared Skyfall had fallen into the same trap of excessively self-referential corn for its 50th birthday that Die Another Day tumbled into. And then Javier Bardem appeared on the screen. The character dynamic is very like that of The Dark Knight; Craig faces off against an effeminate, playful yet …

Spine tingling Modish Bond film

Directed by Sam Mendes
Starring Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench
3.5/4
Sam Mendes has taken his role to direct the 23rd Bond movie. Mendes has roped in once again Daniel Craig as the 007 agent of MI6. After a wooden spoon with Quantum of Solace, Mendes brings back the lost bond in action. Thematically it reminds me of Die Hard 4. (cyber terrorism) But Mendes this time with Purvis and Logan create havoc in MI6 instead of city. There is always a sense of humor in 007’s role and Mendes ensured those one liners get bond into the groove.
An unknown attack at MI6 and a hacking process uncovers some secrets of officers as their camouflages has been identified and sent in youtube. Meanwhile Bond (Craig) recovers from a bloody shot which was misfired by Eve (Naomie Harris) after a …

Skyfall (2012) James Bond (Daniel Craig) must get back to basics to save M (Judi Dench) from a former spy (Javier Bardem) who is out to kill her and destroy MI6. This is a down and dirty, no frills James Bond film, with the exception of the open chase sequence (which is spectacular). It’s a film that is more about characters than gadgets, and James is questioning whether he can continue to be 007, both physically and mentally. Craig gives us a much more layered performance than in past Bond films, and Javier Bardem is amazing as the complex , former spy who is now out to destroy MI6. I loved this film, with one of the best Bond villains ever, and even if you aren’t a James Bond fan, you will like it. My Rating: I Would Pay to See it Again

Best bond ever??? I dont think so...

I have seen some reviews from various critics that call this the best Bond ever? Ummm in my opinion not quite however it was entertaining. Are they doing the new Bond films with Daniel Craig in storyline order? Cause we end up with both a new M which is fine, however i will miss Judi Dench in the role, and from what i believe is Bond's introduction to Moneypenny? Little confused here...so if anyone wants to shed some light feel free to message me! Anyhow.. the storyline this time round has the film starting with Bond on a job, another agent who is working alongside Bond ends up shooting 007 after a direct order comes from M (Judi Dench) to do so...007 goes missing as M comes under fire for the death of M16's best agent. It's not long before 007 once again resurfaces and comes to M's …

Skyfall review

To fully review a film such as this one has to appreciate the franchise, it's intricacies and the leads who played Bond. Typical for a Bond flick would be the gorgeous locations, spiffy gadgets, gorgeous ladies, typical one-lines, humor, well choreographed action and story about catching spies, leadership of M, innovative Q and the charming Moneypenny. In this picture, James Bond, agent 007 (Daniel Craig) is shot based on the order of M (Judi Dench), the head of MI6. Raoul Silva (born Tiago Rodriguez played by Javier Bardem) hunts down the person responsible for imprisoning him in exchange for 6 agents.
The good aspects of the film would be the appropriate character developments, surprisingly revealing more about this version's Bond and M's guilt from her work. Having Javier …

Bond humanised! No more vodka martinis, no gadgets

Pursuing a stolen hard-drive which contains a list of all NATO secret agents currently undercover in terrorist organizations in exotic Istanbul, James Bond (Daniel Craig) is accidentally shot by fellow MI6 agent Eve (Naomie Harris) and is publicly pronounced dead. Back in London, M is in the hot seat for her order to “Take the shot” and is politely asked to retire by the Intelligence Committee chairman, Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes).
But when an explosion at MI6 kills a number of agents, M is forced to confront her past and Bond returns to England, 6 months later, ready for duty. One wonders what Bond did in that half-year's time (besides shagging attractive locals and drowning himself in booze) when he fails his physical evaluation and his marksmanship test.

Skyfall's flaws (SPOILERS)

Ok so I'm not trying to be a hater here but I must say that I was very disappointed by this movie! It was the worst of the Daniel Craig/Bond movie for several reasons.
1. Character construction: In this movie we see a new James Bond, vulnerable, lacking self confidence and with many issues. James Bond's character has been famous for being fearless, cocky and ready to do anything. Already at the very beginning of the film we see a James Bond being an alcoholic and doing nothing with his life! Really James Bond being wino??? Moreover when he takes the tests we find out that he is unfit. How is it possible that Her Majesty's best spy is unfit? I understand that they are trying to portray Bond from a different perspective but there is NO other perspective, he is 007, he is the best spy!! …

Review: Skyfall

I'll admit it - I was never so big on the 007 movies. I've seen parts of some of them, but I can't exactly tell you which one was which and who played Bond in them. I understand that Casino Royale is apparently the best film featuring Daniel Craig as James Bond. If that's the case, I gotta watch Casino Royale ASAP, because I loved the hell out of Skyfall.
Smart, riveting, and occasionally dark and gritty, Sam Mendes' Skyfall is a fantastic piece of entertainment. Flat-out terrific. It's a beautifully crafted spectacle with great performances all around and thrilling action sequences. Having not seen many of the other Bond movies I obviously can't compare performances, but I thought Daniel Craig was great as 007. He was chill, slick, a supreme badass, and when necessary, pretty funny. …
