Could have been a lot better

This is the only entry in the Texas Chainsaw franchise that I have seen, so there is probably a lot here I’m missing. Meaning: there are probably a bunch of things that fans of the series cringed at that I was unfazed by simply due to ignorance. If your looking for a review from a Texas Chainsaw fan then look elsewhere.

The movie starts off with a very cliché first half. I may have not seen the other Texas Chainsaw movies but I know the tropes of the genre when I see them. I don't dislike horror films (I think the Shining is one of the best films ever made,) but I don't think TCM has much to offer, beyond plumbing the depths of human depravity. The first film, though thoroughly unlikable, at least was consistently scary, and the zero budget level of production value added to the documentary-like feel of the film. Beyond that first film (which is a well-made piece of horror,) the rest of the franchise is a collection of ludicrous and increasingly gory horror cliches. This latest entry to the series is especially …
