"The Day After" in a sealed bunker.

I thought this was an excellent psychological thriller. It was scary at times, but not as scary as a top horror movie. The way people react in a hopeless situation was scary. A survival of the fittest. The dominant individuals taking the reins. The weaker individuals crawling in a submissive position so that they see a chance to survive. Arquette played this behavior properly in this film. Beyond that, her contribution is simply nil. Formerly her joining a movie was a guarantee for some functionally nice nudity. In this movie she was usually strategically covered and so there remains, besides a few hysterical mood-swings, in terms of performances not much left.
It wasn't exactly a SF either. Although the so-called North Koreans with futuristic bio-suits gave it a SF touch. The only …

The Divide review

Eva and her boyfriend Sam, Josh and his brother Adrien, Josh's friend Bobby, Marilyn and her daughter Wendi, and Devlin survive a nuclear explosion. Mickey informs the group about the circumstances outside and its detrimental effects once the door is opened. Poor character development, ineffective and unclear plot hampered the stylish direction and sincere performances. Themes of morality, human decency, testing people's personality in dire situations, selfishness, and personal urges were evident, but the explanations of the nuclear explosions, Wendi's fate as well as the others in the lab and Eva's journey outside the horrific city devastated by the explosions. Score, acting and direction were not enough to make The Divide a descent watch since the unending violence, torture and …

Humanity here seems a bit overrated...

For a movie about what is a human being when deprived of everything, it was quite disappointing and irritating. All the characters in the movie except Eva, Adrien and Devlin were so unlikable from the very beginning, that to imagine such a group being together in any other occasion is laughable. But yes, that was the point, to see how would so random individuals behave with each other under extreme circumstances. But no, they weren't a group to begin with - no real discussion, no real cooperation, no real care for the others, no real effort to solve any issue they had -- just a bunch of whining and/or spoiled selfish brats you wouldn't socialize with in the normal life. I'll put aside unsolved mysteries happening outside the shelter, because the focus of the film was anyway on the people …

Promising Set-Up Deteriorates

The film literally starts with a bunch of people running for shelter, from a nuclear attack, and some end up in a barricaded area underground. The rest of the time is spent in this one location with this group of strangers as they try to survive. The story is quite unpredictable and the acting is decent, but we don't get to know these characters and have to watch them deteriorate on a mental and physical level. In the middle of the film, the group becomes divided and there is no reason for some of the characters to turn bad. We get one glimpse of the outside, but the puzzling circumstance is never explained or followed up on. The ending was just the cut-off I was expecting it to be, which isn't a good thing. Too much nastiness for the sake of nothing.

Michael Biehn signed on to do this Campy Thriller?

That's the answer for those of you who might see the trailer and think about watching this one. No, don't be fooled by it. I've rated this 1 star mainly because I couldn't rate it any lower, I did not get bored (enough) to just stop watching it and it didn't have any giant plot holes (because there is no plot to talk about). I was disappointed when I realized this isn't a movie about a nuclear fallout. Its not. Its a movie about a group of people trapped in a cellar. Sure they are locked in a nuclear shelter and they hid there because someone decided to attack the USA with nukes but they could have been running away from Godzilla or hordes of zombies. It really doesn't matter. Once the door is locked the movie turns into a survival horror/thriller flick. The opening sequence with …
