A movie like one big magic trick.

This movie was for me one big magic trick.
Like many, I thought the beginning of this film was great. The presentation of the "Four Horsemen" was well done. Especially Woody was brilliant as the mentalist. His humor is natural and doesn't feel like forced or exaggerated. I find him irresistible in this role as a shrewd and highly intellectual lettered psychic illusionist.
Eisenberg has that natural arrogance of which I sometimes doubt whether this is played or it's his personality in real life. Fisher and Franco ensure the beauty portion of the film. The interplay of the four characters and the interactions between them was quite entertaining and frequently enormously funny.
Merritt McKinney: The first time I saw you, I thought you were... a dick.
Henley Reeves: …

"Now You See Me" by Yojimbo

A group of small time conjurers and hypnotists are recruited by a mystery figure to stage a series of high profile Robin Hood style robberies. Now You See Me is a flashy, mainstream crowd pleasing thriller that will appeal very much to fans of the Ocean's films. The cast play off each other well, Woody Harrelson's smart mouthed mentalist being the pick of the bunch and the magic-based format provides plenty of opportunities for flashy set pieces and even an exciting chase or two. Morgan Freeman routinely steals the show as a cynical professional debunker and Ruffalo, who already has experience in the heist field starring as he did in the similar Brothers Bloom, acquits himself well as the befuddled agent in pursuit. It's obviously very contrived and the twist is a little obvious, and …

J. Daniel “Danny” Atlas, Henley Reeves, Jack, and Merritt McKinney were invited by Arthur “Art” Tressler to perform as the Four Horsemen. FBI agent Dylan Rhodes and Alma Dray from Interpol are tasked to investigate the mysterious heist of robbing a bank by the Four Horsemen. The pair approaches an ex magician names Thaddeus Bradley. Screenplay was top notch with lines: “I hate people who exploit other people.” My life is happier when I believe that.” “Faith can move mountains.” Soundtrack was lively and performances notably of Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo and Woody Harrelson were splendid. Cinematography, editing and plot were fantastic. Only minor blemishes observed by this reviewer were the lack of outcome for the rich Arthur Tressler, effects heavy related …

These Tricks Sure Are a Treat

I'm sure that if you look closely (as the film suggests in the opening) you will be able to pick apart the flaws in this fun caper - but I don't like to over-analyze things. Now You See Me just provides a great time - and features a killer cast - in one of the more enjoyable films I have seen in 2013.
The film opens as a group of four different street magicians - an arrogant illusionist, a past-his-prime mentalist, a former assistant turned escape artist and a sleight-of-hand thief - all are observed by mysterious hooded man and each receive a Tarot card marked with an eye symbol. After going to the location, a brilliant hologram leads them to their next endeavor.... one year later the Four Horsemen - as they are now a joint magic act - are wowing the crowd in Vegas by making money in …

Breath of fresh air in a stale market

When I originally saw the trailer and saw the storyline for this lil gem I knew it was a gimmie so to speak that I would be going to see it at some point. Well it didn't happen till it was available on dvd however it was well worth the wait! Like I fore mentioned earlier the storyline is original and a breath of fresh air in a less then spectacular year for movies so far. This story is a robin hood sorta tale as 4 street illusionists and magicians are giving a show of their own in Vegas where they are now known as the 4 horseman worldwide, The Cia and Fbi are on their cases however as they are magically robbing banks and giving the spoils of their heists to the crowds in their audiences.

exciting and enjoyable summer movie

A team of illusionists(Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, dave Franco, Woody Harrelson) pull of some million dollar heists over the whole world, which is why they are hunted by the FBI and Interpol(Mark Ruffalo and Melanie Laurent)...
I actually don't know why everyone hates "Now you see me". It was not a spectacular movie but it was not bad at all. The idea was very good and the script was very good, it has so many cool one-liners,the characters were well-written, the magic tricks were cool and there were some good twists, but, onthe whole, it was a little bit clichéd. The actors all do a solid job, but not excellent. The direction of Louis Leterrier(Transporter) was bad, but that was not such a big problem. The cinematography was good some shots were just awesome.

Ruffalo Rescues Thriler

Now You See Me is a crime thriller about four magicians who are brought together by a mysterious fifth magician. The movie (despite its marketing) actually focuses more on an FBI agent (played by Mark Ruffalo) who is trying to stop them.
Mark Ruffalo is the movies saving grace (at least up until the end.) The movies script is clumsy and clunky but Ruffalo brings so much charisma and fun to his roll, that he almost single handedly makes up for it; almost.
Unfortunately the other actors seem to be running on autopilot and the inevitable twist at the end kind of ret-cons all of the good bits of the movie and render them lame.
The movie is fun, and incredibly entertaining, but it doesn’t take much pulling to make the whole thing unravel. If you like the whole Magic-Thriller …

Now You See Me

Now You See Me (2013) PG-13 A team of illusionists, led by J. Daniel (Jesse Eisenberg) and Merritt (Woody Harrelson), are robbing banks while performing magic in front of audiences. Its up to an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) and an Interpol detective (Melanie Laurent) to not only stop the team, but to find out what’s the team’s magic secret of robbery success? This is another film where a great cast is let down by a lesser script. The film starts off with a bang, as we see how the four magicians come to form a team. The first heist they do is thrilling, but the big problem with the movie is that it peaks with that heist, and all the other heists aren’t as flashy or fun. Eisenberg and Harrelson play off each other really well, but I never really saw the sparks between possible …
