ENCINO MAN has some fun moments, for sure, but it's a pretty awful film. The plot is ridiculous and Pauly Shore is annoying in the worst way possible.

While digging a pool in his backyard, two high school dudes Dave (Sean Astin) and Stoney (Pauly Shore) are shocked to find a stone-age man frozen in a big block of ice. They put the guy next to a furnace to thaw him out while they're at school, and soon discovers him to be alive. The two pals realize that the only way to keep him safe is to pass him off as a high-school exchange student – a plan that produces hilarious consequences! This extremely low brow comedy is a hang-over from 80s college flicks such as Weird Science and the like. Brendan Fraser displays his usual goofy charm, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Just don't expect any kind of intellectual challenge...

So this is the film that launched that star known as Pauly Shore. Oh, and Brendon Fraser. If you do a "where are they now" game, guess who has had better luck? If I want to remember just how desperate I was for laughs in the early 90s, I guess I'll pop this in and weep silently.

It's not a very good film, but there is something oddly entertaining about it.

To this movie we owe the legendary career of Pauly Shore! I love it!
