A mindless movie that provides momentary amusement

"I need a job! All I know what to do is kill! Goddammit!"
The first Expendables movie was a hit. A collection of 80's action heroes whose expiration date already expired and look like a pile of shriveled potatoes that have lain too long in the sun. It was a tribute to those legendary years when Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Lundgren and consorts annually kicked some ass in one or other (sometimes cheap looking) action movie. A healthy dose of self-perspective and self-deprecation was abundant, with a wink to the past and using well known one-liners randomly. The second film continued on this momentum with some newbies in it, so that the entertainment value still remained at a reasonable level. And now there is the third part of this trilogy. This movie presents the same again with the …

So what about The Hague again?

I was ready to totally hate this movie for the pg13 rating and the new cast members overshadowing the original crew but to my surprise, the third installment in Stallone's franchise of affectionate throwbacks to 80s action flicks is not as bad as I surely thought it was gonna be.
The film does still suffer from the downgraded rating. You can clearly see it was originally supposed to have been R-rated but what appear to be the more violent scenes are conveniently cut off before they show anything gruesome. But it strangely does still push its rating as far as it can go which is nice with the violence and language.
Also the film's larger budget is put to better use with the action scenes which are all gigantic in scale compared to the last two movies. The climactic battle involving the …

The Dependable Expendables
Chris Kavan - wrote on 11/15/2014
I don't know if it was the fact I was watching the unrated cut vs. the theatrical PG-13, but I actually think The Expendables 3 is better than The Expendables 2 - though it still suffers from issues. It's true that the series is beginning to show its age - as much as the main actors - and this could very well be the last hurrah - but at lease they went out with a big bang.
The opening scenes are a lot of fun - we have a prison transport train rescue - and we get the first glimpse of Wesely Snipes joining our merry band of misfits heroes. Snipes has been out of the spotlight for awhile (he even pokes fun at himself with the "tax evasion" line) but it's nice to see he hasn't lost much of his step. As a knife-throwing ex-medic, he often rubs Lee Christmas (action mainstay Jason Statham) …

The Expendables 3 review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 10/13/2014
A bigger cast and more explosives (yes Helicopter chase, tanks, etc.) doesn't even translate to better. Obviously the worst of the trilogy with its hasty character development, lousy dry humor and cheesy ending. With the 2nd and this final (hopefully) installment, the first one makes it look like a classic if it weren't for the shallow plot and again cheesy scenes. The fault of the franchise is the lack of better character history (just to rushed), some awful dialogues and just too focused on the star power of each artist. The last one could have been special and of course the real life ego of Willis didn't help either that's why he is out. Overall, your very average action flick with some new members of the team. Heck, even Banderas being comical was painful to watch.

Part Three is 'Expendable'

'The Expendables' series has begun to show wear. With the strong improvement of the second film, it was a disappointment to witness the decline in this third outing. It offers the least exciting bang, thus far. Most of the action isn't stimulating. It opens with a couple of decent short bouts and leaves one or two cool moments for a ho-hum finale, with a long stretch of boredom in the overlong middle. There's a strong sense of going through the usual motions this time around. It has a nonsensical/playful tone, but the outcome is still less fun. It's harder to overlook the lame scripting and acting (present in all three) because of this. Only three of the new recruits (Snipes, Bandaras, Gibson) put any effort in. They steal each of their very few scenes by just trying to be fun. …

A lot of fun antonio steals the show
smeagol - wrote on 08/18/2014
This 3rd movie of the franchise iincludes some young gun actors as well as some acting heavyweights in the form of harriosn ford and mel gibson and antonio banderous.as well as the returning from prison welsely snipes. along with the usual crew. as far as a cast is concerned you wont get much better.
This is a far better movie than the first 2, antoni banderious steals the show with his comic performance. its worth watching just for him. mel gibson reminds us what a great actor he is and gives the film some depth. harrison ford gets involved in some action and adds his star power. while the scenes with kelsey grammer ( frasier ) are very good and give the film that something that was missing before.
the story is basically the expendibles go up against a original expendible mel …

"I'm the knife before Christmas".

"I'm the knife before Christmas". The expendables are back and you still can't understand what there saying, but this time they are out for blood. With The Expendables as targets, Ross brings in some new blood - mixing old-school muscles with modern tactics and technology. He's hoping this one-two punch will be enough to bring Stone banks down... for good. The CG in this movie looks awful just like in the other expendables movies, The writing once again is bad and the story does make scenes. But this movie has a cool villain played by Mel Gibson who is playing himself, and Wesley Snipes and Antonio Banderas are the best parts in this movie, the action is so cool and so and well shout this time not like in the other films when the camera does keep still. I noticed something during the …
