While it's not perfect, Adam McKay and a stacked cast provide some meaty and sometimes too on-the-nose satire about how mankind are essentially ostriches when it comes to dealing with anything remotely negative about the future: pop music, Twitter (or X) posts, TikTok and soundbites. The vast population truly would care more about a pop-star breakup than a world-ending comet and would blindly follow their leader of choice, even if it meant ignoring what is right in front of them. Truly a film for our times.

Another overlong and overwrought satire from Adam McKay's collection of diminishing returns, "Don't Look Up" mistakes snark for wit and self-importance for urgency.

The allegory is strong with this one. As a healthcare worker who's constantly battling misinformation about the virus (almost as much as fighting the virus itself), I sympathize with the characters in this movie. And I 100% believe that if it was a comet, rather than a virus, it would have been handled this way. If there was an extinction-level event hitting the Earth, I would spend the last moments exactly as the main character did. It also teaches a good lesson in tuning off the panic, and those that perpetuate it for their gain, and turning to those that matter the most: family and friends. This is a great movie that (purposely) cuts a little close to reality.
