Escape Room, Holmes and Watson and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin
Chris Kavan - wrote on 11/28/18 at 10:25 AM CT
That post-Thanskgiving bloat must be affecting the MPAA ratings board, as it is a bit of a light offering this week. A relatively short list gives us two decent subjects - Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly team up (again) to bring us a comedic take on the classic detective duo Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. If you like things a bit more thrilling, don't worry, you'll get to see a bunch of pretty …

FROM THE BIG SCREEN:
"Searching": A well-done mystery thriller with quite a few unexpected twists and turns, though the premise -- using the Internet and smartphones to track someone -- isn't all that original. David Kim (John Cho)'s 16-year-old daughter goes missing, and after a local investigation doesn't come up with a single lead, David decides to search the one place where all secrets …
Thanksgiving Weekend Box Office: Ralph Breaks Big, Creed II a Knockout, Robin Hood Fails

It was a massive Thanksgiving Weekend box office, and studios have a lot to be thankful for. Ralph Breaks the Internet nearly had a record opening while Creed II did break a record - for a live-action Thanksgiving opening. The Fantastic Beasts sequel narrowly won the five-day holiday but lost the weekend to The Grinch. Meanwhile, Robin Hood was one of the year's biggest bombs, landing outside …

Welcome to an extra-special edition of what's coming soon. Of course as we as a collective nation fill our bellies with extra-delicious turkey, ham, duck, sweet potatoes, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and whatever else families might gather around - remember, there are still plenty of movies for families to enjoy. And enjoy they will, as both Wreck-It Ralph and Adonis Creed return in their …

FROM THE BIG SCREEN:
"Crazy Rich Asians": Fast-paced, brezzy and fun, this almost-a-screwball comedy revolves around native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) as she accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding), to his best friend's wedding in Singapore... where she discovers that not only is he not only the scion of one of the country's wealthiest families but also one of …
Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse, A Dog's Way Home and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin
Chris Kavan - wrote on 11/20/18 at 09:55 PM CT
As a lot of us prepare to gorge ourselves and have a family gathering of various sizes - the MPAA Ratings Boards isn't laying down. The update this week is a bit on the light side, but given the upcoming holiday, I guess a little is better than none at all. We're getting another version of Spider-Man - this one very much animated and we're also getting yet another heart-warming canine caper …
Weekend Box Office: Fantastic Beasts Roars Into First, Widows, Instant Family Fall Flat
Chris Kavan - wrote on 11/18/18 at 09:01 PM CT
Even though the new films might have been a bit under expectations for the weekend, it doesn't mean the good news stopped. Despite some lower-than-expected opening, November is pacing ahead of last year - even if the weekend itself was down compared to last year. Still, as long as things can chug along at a fairly decent pace, November should wind up better than last year as 2018 keeps moving …
New in Theaters November 16: Fantastic Beasts Crimes of Grindelwald, Instant Family, Widows

It's going to be a fantastic weekend, thanks to the Fantastic sequel. Crimes of Grindelwald is going to have no problem topping the box office - and it should do so in pretty spectacular fashion. If the Harry Potter spinoff isn't up your alley, Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne are here with the heartwarming Instant Family and we also have four big actresses (Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, …
Bumblebee, The Goldfinch, They Shall Not Grow Old and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin
Chris Kavan - wrote on 11/14/18 at 09:04 AM CT
This list isn't as long this week, but the MPAA Ratings Board makes up for it with the quality. While I haven't been enamored with Transformers for a long time - we'll see if things get better with a spinoff movie instead. Also on the way is a powerful WWI documentary from the man best known for directing big-budget fantasy films and a drama about recovering from a terrorist attack - and an …
