Weekend Box Office: Grinch Steals the Box Office as Overlord, Girl in the Spider's Web Struggle
Chris Kavan - wrote on 11/11/18 at 07:21 PM CT
While the weekend delivered three new movies for audiences, only one was readily embraced. The animated Grinch brought in families to rule the roost, while Overlord and The Girls in the Spider's Web had to deal with the scraps. It was better news for Bohemian Rhapsody and also for Venom, which enjoyed a mighty opening in China. Still, 2018 continues to perform and if the weekends continue this …
New in Theaters November 09: Girl in the Spider's Web, The Grinch, Overlord

As November rolls right along, we're getting a nice mix of new movies this weekend. We have an updated animated film based on a Christmas classic, an updated action heroine based on a series of best-selling novels and, just to make things interesting, a zombie tale set during WWII. All in all, something for everyone and we'll have to see how Bohemian Rhapsody stands up to the competition and …
Once Upon a Deadpool, Kid Who Would Be King and Missing Link in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

A quite large update once again only has a handful of wide releases, but at least they are interesting. The most interesting, of course, is the new limited-time offering of the Merc with a family-friendly mouth in a re-rated Deadpool. We're actually getting a lot of family-friendly films with a new animated bigfoot tale, an updated take on the Arthurian legend and a teen-centric romance tale. A …

FROM THE BIG SCREEN:
"Incredibles 2": In this long-awaited sequel to the very popular "Incredibles" (2004), Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack -- whose super …
Weekend Box Office: Bohemian Rhapsody Delivers a Killer Queen, Nutcracker Crumbles in Distant Second
Chris Kavan - wrote on 11/04/18 at 07:53 PM CT
You would have to go all the back to February of this year to find another weekend where the top three films were all new films at the box office. This time around Bohemian Rhapsody, Nutcracker and the Four Realms and Nobody's Fool took the top three spots at the box office - though it wasn't good new for all of those films. A Star is Born continued to hold well while Halloween managed to keep a …
New in Theaters November 02: Bohemian Rhapsody, Nobody's Fool, Nutcracker and the Four Realms

Hope you got all the horror out of your system for October, because we're now entering the fall season proper, where more serious fare resides. Case in point - Rami Malek becomes the front-man for Queen, Disney gives us a new twist on a holiday classic and, to lighten things up, Tiffany Haddish gets out of prison only to find herself trying to foil a different nefarious plot. Don't count horror …
Destroyer, The Upside, Girl in the Spider's Web and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin
Chris Kavan - wrote on 10/31/18 at 09:54 AM CT
Another solid slate arrives this week as the MPAA Ratings Board gives us a lot of drama this time around. We have Destroyer, featuring another award-caliber performance from Nicole Kidman, The Girl in the Spider's Web attempts to revive an anti-heroine for our modern age and The Upside is a remake of a well-received French drama. That's a well-rounded update, and one I am more than happy to …

FROM THE BIG SCREEN:
"The Spy Who Dumped Me": It's been more than a quarter of a century since the brilliant "Thelma and Louise" hit the big screen, and you'd think that Hollywood would get the female-buddy-action-comedy film right after such a great start. But no ... especially not with "The Spy Who Dumped Me," a silly comedy about two 30-year-old best friends in Los Angeles, Audrey (Mila …
Weekend Box Office: Halloween Repeats as October Winds Down in Record Fashion
Chris Kavan - wrote on 10/28/18 at 07:36 PM CT
It was no surprise that Halloween took the top spot for the second week in a row as audiences are definitely in the horror spirit. None of the new entries really has much of an impact as Gerard Butler's Hunter Killer barely managed to crack the top five while Indivisible landed well outside the top 10. In other horror news, Suspira, an art-house horror film if there was ever one, managed to snag …
New in Theaters October 26: Hunter Killer, Indivisible
Chris Kavan - wrote on 10/25/18 at 06:37 AM CT
While October has rolled to some record territory, it is going to be the hold-overs that drag this Halloween box office. The two newcomers, submarine drama Hunter Killer and inspirational film Indivisible, aren't likely to stir up audiences. Rather, it looks like Halloween, Venom, A Star is Born and even Goosebumps 2 will likely once again rule the roost. It should still be a rather profitable …
