Sickening violent crime story in which a teenager becomes a sort of hitman for the Yakuza. Many of the scenes are nearly unwatchable due to the sadistic torture inflicted constantly to everyone on screen. There is a very disturbing rape scene in which a prostitute is severe abused, and finally a little child gets decapitated by the "hero." I would avoid this. I cannot understand the high ratings.

A hyper stylized bloodbath. That's the basic gist of this movie. The creative use of camera techniques is the one continuously redeeming factor here. Sure, Kakihara's torturous habits are bizarrely entertaining, but aside from that there's nothing else worth mention. The messy plot construction had me trying hard to follow along as so many forgettable characters were spewing out left and right. I was not invested in any part of this story. The over-the-top violence becomes less interesting as well, because of this. Reception kills some of the impact.

If you like extreme violence you will enjoy this movie. For me quite frankly it was to much, and that say quite a bit as I have seen quite a few movies. This is among the most gory violent and cruel movies I have ever seen.

Ichi the Killer review

"There's no love in your violence." Weird, suspenseful, gross, funny, and yet somewhat artistic because of its content. Definitely not for the faint of heart or who hates excessive torture/violence/blood on film. No good guys to root for here, almost everybody is flawed except for a child, which has a huge part in the conclusion. A crime boss, namely Anjo, was murdered and Jijii (Shinya Tsukamoto) removes any traces. Kakihara (Tadanobu Asano) tries to search for his superior and blames Suzuki for the missing money and boss. He also asks assistance from dirty cops JirĂ´ and SaburĂ´ (Suzuki Matsuo), who was aided by Kakihara. Jihii cares for Ichi (Nao Omori), a shy man who becomes crazy and skilled in killing when provoked, but cries when angry.

"Ichi The Killer" by Yojimbo

Based upon a popular comic book, Ichi The Killer is the story of a severely emotionally disturbed young man who is manipulated into expressing his impotence and repressed rage by butchering various gangland targets in a live action Manga piece that takes the Japanese fascination with amputation and mutilation to the ultimate extreme. Utterly bizarre in a way only splatter flicks ever are but executed with far more intelligence than most, it takes its violence to such an absurd extreme it becomes almost Loony Tunes silly, but the grim attention to detail Miike shows when portraying the blood and guts makes for a disturbing juxtaposition of styles and images. It certainly won't be to everyone's taste (particularly if you have a weak stomach!) and much of the plot is not satisfactorily …

Sick, Twisted, and totally incredible!

"Ichi The Killer" deals with an yakuza Kakihara (played by the diverse Tadanobu Asano) who along with his underlings starts a search for his missing boss. At the same time he finds himself chased by a mysterious assassin known only as Ichi. Kakihara's methods of extracting information become a similar sight throughout the film, with him torturing anyone that could know something about his boss.
The movie is presented as a dark comedy that feels more like a parody of humanity's most dark and hidden desires. With every character representing a sick and twisted version of a certain established type of behavior found in modern society. From the abused, passive and sexually inactive male being transformed into a crying psychopatic murderer whose's only excitement comes from seeing (or …
