One of Bogart's middle-tier dramas after stardom, this mixture of romance, espionage, and wartime action does have enough going on to remain entertaining. The special effects and matte paintings are terribly dated. But the chemistry between Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor is as good as it was in The Maltese Falcon. Sydney Greenstreet is an effective villain as usual.

The plot wasn't all that great. And the racism was even worse.

One of John Huston's lesser works, but there's plenty of intrigue, tough guy heroics and the familiar faces of Mary Astor and Sydney Greenstreet make for great entertainment. Bogart and Astor's banter on board ship is particularly good fun.
