This film follows the historical time period and legend pretty closely and the performances of Bergman and Brynner carry the film. Much better than the animated version.

Anastasia review

General Bounine (Brynner) assists in bringing back the memories of a confused amnesiac Anna Koreff (Ingrid Bergman). Most scenes felt prolonged with too tedious shots. Some characters were not as important to develop the plot. Martita Hunt does a fabolous supporting role vital to the plot. Yul Brynner is always solid with his performance but lacks the charm to lure the female lead. Sets were extravagant, score was elegant and costumes were gorgeous. The film had a similar premise to Kurosawa's Kagemusha where a thief takes the place of a WarLord. For a simple premise, Anastasia doesn't bring in methods to make it more engagig and some sequences felt Hollywood and scripted. The story however is worth watching and the performance of Ingrid Bergman makes it worthwhile.
