Tod Browning's cult-classic stands the test of time, thanks to its quality of humanization towards its cast of physically deformed individuals whom a judgmental and ignorant society would deem as "Freaks."

This unique film's best moments are when it focuses on the "family" that the circus performers have become and gives what others might view as "freaks" their own opportunity to be original characters. When the movies focuses on the characters' deformities, it does feel exploitive, but the film does drive home a chilling and fascinating conclusion.

if you can get past the first 15 mins. or so, it's a surprisingly decent film of love and revenge. Browning does a good job at showing the family side of the circus sideshow acts. A few less characters could've made this a more sound film, some of the "freaks" are seen and maybe even heard from but we know little about them. Character development surely wasn't part of the plan. Decent, but not great.

But it is without question he is best known to the world as the director of one of the top 20 most iconic films in history, Dracula, as well as the film in question, that of which is Freaks. - Possibly even more for Freaks. Dracula is much more recognized, but he didn't put much effort in it, and Lugosi is discussed much more than any one else. In Freaks Tod Browning is almost considered the star. - I'm not going to go much into the history of the making of the film or the history of the people involved. If I did I'm sure it would …
