This is a two part movie. Joan the Maid - The Battles and Joan the Maid - The Prisons. I saw the second part first (The Prisons) due to availability and this is by far the best. Sandrine Bonnaire as Joan of Arc is like a gift from heaven. It is different than all the other versions. SPOILERS: Sandrine/Joan is called awful names: A bitch, the antichrist. She is Joan of Arc!! In prison, someone pays a guard in attempt to rape her. At the stake she screams for God to have mercy on her soul. And so much more. Highly recommended. If you only see one Joan of Arc movie or one Jacques Rivette movie, see this one.
