I wanted to love this movie, because I grew up loving The Who, and I still enjoy hearing their stuff on the radio, classic "meaty, beaty" numbers like "Can't Explain" and "My Generation" and "Pictures of Lily." They sound great on vinyl, but in most of these clips of live performances they don't sound so great. And the feedback and instrument smashing works a lot better when you're watching them live. (I saw them in 1970 and loved it.) I don't expect live sound from the sixties and seventies to be as listenable as the recordings made then, but on top of the sloppy playing, these guys, in the interviews shown (all from the sixties and seventies), come off mostly as annoying jerks. The Kids Are Alright was just alright for me, dawg.
