Another meager, self-important exercise from Jean-Luc Godard in which the youthful characters turn rebellious; not much here to really think about that you haven't already seen from the director. Unless you're a die-hard Godard fan, steer clear. Final Grade: C

La chinoise review

The plot revolves around Véronique (Anne Wiazemsky), Guillaume (Jean-Pierre Léaud), Yvonne (Juliet Berto), Henri (Michel Semeniako) and Kirilov (Lex de Bruijin) in which they embody a radical Maoist group called the "Aden Arabie Cell". A film shot like a documentary that involves heavily on dialogue with lines: "A reflection of reality." "The world is as much yours as ours. Hope lies with you." "To seek is to study." "..unjust wars." "Liberty doesn't always have clean hands." "Culture gives control to the world." The pace and style was somewhat dull which makes the conclusion brief, making you want more after finding out the psyche of the characters. Not as entertaining as some of the directors films, La chinoise tries to make a point but suffers in the entertainment value.
