Plot: A man with no social mores is released from prison. He none-the-less tries

It takes a bold director to employ a rape scene as metamorphosis; and it requires a gifted one to evoke warmth, hope and bittersweet whimsy from the resultant relationship. In his third feature, filmmaker Lee furthered his already impressive body of work with his most unconventional relationship to date, but one that is perhaps his most enduring. At its core are two powerful performances, in particular that of Moon So-ri, who proves herself an actress of rare courage and remarkable skill. In exploring human intimacy through two outsiders defying societal norms, it achieves a complexity that places it beyond the intellectual faculties of those weaned on Kate Hudson or Kristen Bell romances.
