This is the first of two film versions of the Graham Greene novel about Vietnam in the days before full-scale war. Michael Redgrave is great as the British reporter, but Audie Murphy is not so great. His voice sounds like Matthew McConaughey; he looks like a televangelist. He seems awkward, whether speechifying or wooing the lovely Phuong. To its credit, the movie was shot in Vietnam, and the city scenes are interesting to look at.
