Plot: Pasqualino is just an Italian man trying to get by - but after deserting the army during WWII, he finds himself in a German prison camp, where he will do anything to get by. Looking back on his life, we see him living with his seven sisters, the accidental murder of one of their suitors - his trial, getting sent to an asylum, raping a patient, volunteering for the army to escape the asylum - all leading to his German camp. -- Chris Kavan

An incredibly powerful film, and an incredibly interesting film. Something that is so fascinating about this film is the man it follows is not a very good man, in fact a pretty bad man, played brilliantly by Giancarlo Giannini. The film follows him from his days as a small time hood protecting his sister's honor, at least his honor anyways. It is a fascinating film throughout. It contains rather graphic imagery especially in scenes involving a concentration camp and its warden. But despite all the evil it shows in the film it somehow shows a certain love of life amazingly at the same time.

Our Daily Free Stream: Lina Wertmüller - Seven Beauties (engl. dubbed). Lina Wertmüllers Seven Beauties handelt von Pasqualino, der durch das faschistische Italien wandelt, noch vor dem zweiten Weltkrieg. Es wird sein Schicksal sein, in deutsche Gefangenschaft zu geraten. Pasqualino landet schliesslich im KZ. Das mag als Plot nicht ungewöhnlich wirken (es gibt viele italienische Filme, die den zweiten Weltkrieg thematisieren), was aber Seven Beauties doch zu einem der einzigartigsten Filme überhaupt macht, ist die Tatsache, dass Pasqualino ein Dummkopf ist. Er ist weder besonders mutig, noch ausgesprochen feige, nicht einmal zynisch. In seinen "besten" Momenten ist er Opportunist, in seinen schwächsten ein gefügiger Spielball.
