The movie follows the young adulthood of Elizabeth the first. Jean Simmons plays Elizabeth, and shes just horribly cast, nothing against Jean Simmons, its just in a million years I would never imagine dark sensual Jean Simmons as the pale tuberculin which Elizabeth was. Also it has her having this love affair with a man who was kind of he step-father (he married Henry the eighths widow) A man who was at least 30 years her senior. A man who many historians actually believe raped the adolescent Elizabeth. I don't know maybe I'm weird, I just don't like movies that romanticize rape. Knowing of these things I found impossible to view this film with anything but an uneasiness.
