Other than the shock value (which isn't so shocking now) there's not much else to this movie. The acting and story are both in the terrible range and while some of the revenge deaths were interesting, it can't save this exploitation film. As others have said, if this is you cup of tea, Last House on the Left is the superior film choice.

This movie was so bad I fast forwarded through the first hour or so. The characters annoying, the rape scenes unending, and the acting awful. Costume, make-up, and gore were okay. The blood a little too pink but it's an older film so I'll let that slide. From start to finish a bland gorefest trying to be a horror film but only managing to be softcore rape porn. If there is even such a thing. If you think you would enjoy a film about a woman being raped and her revenge upon all those responsible in the most bloody means an 80s film can manage, enjoy. Otherwise watch 'The Last House on the Left ' instead.

I Spit on Your Grave is trash, plain and simple. The acting is terrible, the lighting and camerawork are just as bad and the overall story is ludicrous. Furthermore, a movie like this is just not that shocking to those of us in the era of Saw and Hostel, although the audience can see why it was shocking back in 1978. In the end, there really is no reason to watch this movie. It is not the worst movie ever, but it is still terrible and there are far better films in the genre to choose from. Anyone looking for production value, acting, or story should avoid this film.

I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE - Not Just For Teenage Boys

A.K.A. DAY OF THE WOMAN, I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE titillated me and my friends when we were emerging from our tweens. It was no easy task getting the VHS home. I had to rent it. My parents had to take me to the video rental place and rent it for me. It was our good fortune that the cover of the box was a plain black (if I am remembering correctly), and it was titled DAY OF THE WOMAN- very innocuous. It was also our good fortune that it was the unrated version. Not only did this version offer some of the sights that the R rated version didn’t, but the owner of the video store treated unrated films as he did G rated films. If they didn’t have a rating, they couldn’t be prohibited.
We would get the movie home–we probably rented it ten different times–and we would sometimes wait out …
