Thrills and Spills from Stuart Gordon

In recent years, director Stuart Gordon has branched out from the H.P. Lovecraft adaptions he was famous for and started to creep towards more realistic scenarios, and although 'Stuck' is pretty far removed from the OTT gorefest that is 'Re-Animator', it still has its fair share of gruesome moments and black humour. Based on real events, Gordon and writer John Strysik have injected the basic story with a venomous satirical slant that echoes classic George A.Romero and makes what could have been an already bizarre story into a rather more interesting tale.

Good premise, poor execution.

They take an interesting premise and almost drive it into the ground with annoying characters that make you want to choke the shit out of them. All the scenes with Stephen Rea struggling while stuck in the windshield are uncomfortably brilliant, he does a fine job trying to make up for the rest of the cast. It's what takes this from being complete crap into being slightly alright. It's not enough though as every time the focus switches to these idiots and their scheming the movie starts to falter horribly. The others do an acceptable job, it's just their characters are so stupid and underwritten there isn't much to work with. Even with a very short run time the premise is stretched beyond what it could offer and hence the need to pad it with uninteresting people having uninteresting …
