This mistake of a movie is about a group of federation troops is stranded on a distant desert planet. Light years away from help, they find refuge in an abandoned outpost from the planet's hostile bugs. Inside though is a new breed of bug waiting to take control of their bodies. I really liked the first movie, you know that goofy 90's movie that is a lot of fun to watch. But this movie is a dull to watch. The acting and the directing is dreadful, The CG is freaking terrible and the movie is like a bad video game.

A seriously-handled direct to video sequel with competent special effects, but it is missing the campiness and level of over-the-top that made the original so enjoyable. Final Grade: D+

The remains of a Federation unit hole up in an abandoned outpost awaiting evacuation when it becomes apparent that they have a new bug threat in their midst. Starship Troopers is one of my favourite guilty pleasures. On the surface, it's just a dim-witted and militaristic sci-fi action movie, but underneath it's actually a very funny black comedy and social satire in a similar vein to Verhoeven's other darkly comic sci-fi actioner Robocop. But as with Robocop's sequel, the streak of black humour is removed for ST2, and what we have is a much more run of the mill affair. Aliens meets Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers in this no frills straight to DVD release that's executed efficiently enough and has some pretty decent effects; in fact it's rather reminiscent of the Resident Evil movies in …
