Crime comedy-drama that feels like a forerunner of a Coen brothers movie. There's a lot of similarities with O Brother, Where Art Thou? Which happens to be one of my favorite movies. This one isn't quite as good. But it's kind of fun to see James Stewart play such an odd character, a one eyed ex-con trying to cash his check while staying ahead of a greedy posse. George Kennedy plays a slimy villain and Anne Baxter shows up as a washed up brothel owner. Most surprising is seeing a young Kurt Russell playing Stewart's sidekick.
