Sometimes corny but undeniably sweet, "The American President" is a typical rom-com with a smart political twist.

Rob Reiner takes the romantic comedy genre to the White House with amusing results. Michael Douglas plays a fantastic superman of a liberal commander-in-chief whos's very charming even if his politics would raise hell in some home theaters. Annette Bening is equally good as the love interest. Like any of these other nineties comedy-dramas about the presidency, there's a wide cast of supporting characters;each one as quirky or crafty as the last.
