Plot: Two friends, Emi Ota and Okiku, have a brief visit at a mountain inn before returning to Tokyo. Later, a soldier on leave, Nanmura visits the same inn and, in the public bath, happens to step on an ornamental hairpin. Emi writes to the inn asking about the very same hairpin and, when she learns it injured a soldier, returns to apologize, setting up a potential romance between the two thanks to some of the long-term visitors to the inn. -- Chris Kavan
