Clearly not one of the best films by either Richard Gere or Winona Ryder. The script/score/cinematography was not interesting, the characters were descent and nothing was memorable except for Charlotte (Winona Ryder) dying. There was nothing romantic about the story and Gere (as Will Keane) really doesn't match Ryder on-screen. A film about forgiveness, which we can safely do about this mediocre flick. Maybe forgive about watching this and forget.

I liked this movie for the fact that is starred Winona Ryder, otherwise I would not have watched Autumn In New York at all. I found the lines a tad predictable - in a couple fo scenes I knew what they were going to say before they said it, and that was the first time I watched it. It is about a guy (Richard Gere) who has a way with women, and goes them like he changes his underwear. Then he meets a girl (Winona Ryder) who is different to all the others, and he falls in love for the first time, despite the fact that she is 22 and he is 48. But this is one girl he cannot let go off, though he has no choice... Autumn In New York, and alright movie, but the vibe of it is a common one.

For some odd reason I was drawn to this movie. I liked the beginning the most and didn't like the way it played out. However, it is a movie that is unfairly ignored. With a fine appearance from movie actress and Broadway veteran, Elaine Stritch.

~Spoilers ahead~

22 year old hat designer Charlotte (Winona Ryder) catches the 48 year old New York restaurateur Will (Richard Gere’s) roving eye one Autumn evening in New York City. The result of their instant attraction is a tempestuous affair although Will and Charlotte keep on saying that they are wrong for each other because he is old and she is young and dying of a rare heart condition. Admittedly Charlotte is desperate for any kind of romance because of her terminal heart condition but Will proves he cannot be trusted when he does the inevitable and cheats on her despite his so-called love for her. Needless to say what disappointed me was how she immediately forgave him. Although that did not creep me out as much as finding out that Will was romantically involved with her …
