Not Quite Hollywood is too long. It's simple as that. The dialectical interplay between adoration and condemnation of this chaotic period of Australian filmmaking is at first electrifying, but with a 98-minute runtime the film needed to at some point develop beyond that grotesque pageantry and actually make an argument that amounted to more than 'Wasn't this all kind of cool?' Personally I don't think it was all that cool. There's this grumpy critic talking head who keeps appearing throughout the runtime to rubbish the films discussed; frankly I ended up siding with him. After dozens of self-congratulatory tales of demeaning women and provoking bar fights for a good take, frankly anyone would.
