Good God was this movie terrible. Such a let down after Sin City. The biggest flaw here is REALISM, which it thoroughly lacked in every sense. I couldn't tell if I was watching a loony toons comedy or an action movie with a political message. Avoid this.

Federale Machete is hired for an assassination but is betrayed. Surviving a bullet, he goes on a rampage of revenge and won't stop until everyone has paid. machete is one of those films that started of cool and sweet but then the movie goes a bit slow and you don't care that much.

Okay, did this movie reinvent the film industry, no, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't good. I truly enjoyed this film. It was fun. Sometimes you just want to sit down and watch a film that doesn't require too much thinking. You have to hand it to Robert Rodriguez for turning a trailor that was shown in between the two parts of Grindhouse (2007) into a feature film. A fun movie!

"Machete" by Yojimbo

An ex-Mexican Federale is forced into attempting to assassinate a bigoted Senatorial candidate in an attempt to ensure the control of drug trafficking over the US border. Another product of the Tarantino-Rodriguez Grindhouse project, Machete is an homage to exploitation flicks of the 70s and 80s. Sharing a lot in common with the likes of Shaft, this film can be though of as Mexploitation as the bear-like, stone-faced Danny Trejo cuts a swathe through a collection of the usual bad guy stereotypes using a variety of pointy objects ensuring the mixture of blood, guts, decapitations and gratuitous female nudity you'd expect. Unfortunately lacking the over-the-top gleefulness of Planet Terror, Machete takes itself rather too seriously and the total absence of laughs means that this parody of …

Machete review

Machete (Danny Trejo), a former Mexican Federale would like to avenge the death of his family killed by Rogelio Torrez (Steven Seagal). Texas State Senator McLaughlin (Robert De Niro) plans on sending hundreds of illegal immigrants out of the country. Machete is aided by Agent Sartana Rivera (Jessica Alba) and Luz (Michelle Rodriguez), aka Shé. The hospital sequence was hard to believe. Subjects on racism, religion, trust, political agenda, justice, vengeance, hypocrisy and insensitivity (a pregnant mother murdered/priest crucified) were touched. Some nice lines: Sartana – “Well, there's a law and there's what's right. I'm going to do what's right.” Padre – “God has mercy, I don't!” Most fight and gun fights were stylishly executed. Humor was funny though some of the …

Machete Makes the Cut

I have to hand it to Robert Rodriguez, he knows how to make a good grindhouse movie. He did it with Planet Terror and strikes again with Machete. Danny Trejo looks like 10 miles of bad road, but he's perfect as the lead: an ex-Mexican federale turned assassin turned vigilante - yes that's a lot of roles, but it's all Trejo looking seriously pissed, cutting off limbs or getting down with all the smokin' women in the movie.
The supporting cast is eclectic, yet perfectly suited to this film. You have Robert De Niro in all his scene-chewing glory as a hard-line anti-immigration Senator, Michelle Rodriguez as leader of an underground movement, Jessica Alba as the ICE agent who eventually sees things Machete's way, Jeff Fahey as the Senator's assistant and Cheech Marin as Machete's brother …
