Although the budget is low, the story is pretty taut - a mysterious book, a Latin phrase - a pact with the devil - and all sorts of head games - although not wholly original, the film does a good job of portraying a man either losing his mind or making the world's worst deal. Plus, that ending kicker is a real treat. If you like your horror more psychological, this one should be checked out.
