An overly complex script and overly stylized direction by Haneke do little to accentuate this affecting look at intersecting lives, which features some truly powerful little moments and long stretches of nothingness. Final Grade: C+, though fans of this director are likely to rate it around a B

An interesting look at isolation in modern society. I turned this off the first time I saw it. I had the good fortune to see it a second time, with Alejandro Innaritu in person citing this as a marvelous filim that had profound influence over him, especially in the case of making Babel. Often overlooked because of its slow pacing, it's worth a watch.
