A film that suffers from a plot that balloons in its ridiculousness with each frame, despite strong performances from the cast (Vincent Cassel is particularly nasty as the film's villain.) It wants to be a neo-noir, but it's missing the captivating dialogue and plot points that usually characterize the genre.

Enjoyable enough thriller, which is derailed (ahem) slightly by some strange casting (3 Brits playing Americans, an Aussie and a Frenchman) and some gaping plot holes. Owen is very good and is the whole show although Aniston won’t be shaking her Friends image off yet with the under used role she plays. Decent storyline doesn’t always do the obvious but the twist is pretty much telegraphed and it does leave a little bit of a sour taste in your mouth after the events preceding it earlier. File this one under Interesting.

Clive Owen is miscast but fair in this extremely tired and predictable thriller; Aniston is particularly stiff as a philandering businesswoman while Vincent Cassel goes over-the-top as a violent thug. Too much works out nicely in the end, and one has a hard time believing most of it. Final Grade: D+

Clive Owen portrays an advertising executive (Charles Schine) with a sick daughter who decides to spice up his life by having a night of fun with a sexy married woman Lucinda Harris (Jennifer Aniston) whom he meets on a train, and later invites her for lunch. After a few lunches they decide to go out for a drink which leads to a hotel...but before they can consummate their illicit relationship they are interrupted by the French thug LaRoche (Vincent Cassel), who invades the room, steals their wallets, then beats and rapes Lucinda. Charles wants to call the police but is dissuaded from doing so by Lucinda, who is terrified that if her husband finds out he will divorce her and claim custody of their young daughter. To make matters worse the robber/rapist has discovered Charles's identity …

A good watch. It gets better as it goes on.

I knew nothing about this movie prior to watching it, which I think added to my enjoyment of the movie. The movie hinges on you not knowing what will happen next. Take out the suspense and you have a decently performed movie with a predictable and sometimes frustrating plot.
The movie wasn’t groundbreaking, it isn’t going to win any awards, it wasn’t shocking and you will probably figure out most of the ending before it is over. But it is still a solid movie that has some good scenes, characters you can identify with and some twists that make it entertaining to watch.
Not that the movie’s plots are anything similar, but it reminds me of Panic Room. I think it reminds me of that because in both movies the main character, a parent, will do anything to protect their family; …

Forget what you've heard about this film

This movie has a ton of negative reviews and did not perform at the level an Owen-Aniston film was expected so I only watched it because I wanted to see how disturbing the sex scene was. Why? Because there is an amazing double standard for inappropriate levels of violence and sexuality when it comes to major American actresses. Fans of Vincent Cassell will obviously find this film lightyears from the disturbing masterpiece--similarly despised by critics and fans alike--Irreversible. That said, the film isn't particularly offensive in terms of quality of performance. Only the RZA disappoints, but only because he fails to fit into the flow of the film; his character plays a deus ex machina so what can one expect? Living in Chicago, they played up how some of it was shot here and how …
