I knew nothing about this movie prior to watching it, which I think added to my enjoyment of the movie. The movie hinges on you not knowing what will happen next. Take out the suspense and you have a decently performed movie with a predictable and sometimes frustrating plot.
The movie wasn’t groundbreaking, it isn’t going to win any awards, it wasn’t shocking and you will probably figure out most of the ending before it is over. But it is still a solid movie that has some good scenes, characters you can identify with and some twists that make it entertaining to watch.
Not that the movie’s plots are anything similar, but it reminds me of Panic Room. I think it reminds me of that because in both movies the main character, a parent, will do anything to protect their family; they are the sheep being driven to be the wolves because of extraordinary circumstances. If you like the type of thrills and suspense from Panic Room you will likely find Derailed a good film.
