An innocent game of war becomes a trip back to the pre-teen time period of our lives. The film is reminiscent of that past age, in that all of the kids are written and performed perfectly in conjunction to their own age. These ARE the games that all of us played as young boys. The imaginative aspect of the battles combines seamlessly with the the real-life setting, to give this war a sense of fun. The character's investment in the fight, their strategic plans, and individual relationships make for a more engrossing watch. It feels like a substantial war played out on a small scale with friendships and social status on the line. Genuine, funny, and completely enjoyable.
