I like Trier, but this one is way too sad and depressive. I like the concept of a giant set, but the girl suffers way to much. Not bad, but is not a great to me either.

Who cares if it's anti-American or it focuses on the negative side of humanity? Why can't we just agree that, for a movie consisting of skins and bones, it's engaging nonetheless. My only minor problem with it is that it's three hours long; it undoubtedly had slow and unnecessary scenes. What saved this movie for me is Nicole Kidman's acting chops. I stayed with her from beginning to end, no matter which direction the story decided to go. Paul Bettany is equally formidable as a symbol of a wise but sometimes confused humanity. Two scenes stood out for me: the figurines and the ending. Each scene is so different yet so alike. In the end, it becomes extremely difficult to point out the villain of the story. Even though this movie is not made to be loved, it is definitely worth discussing. …
