Just think about it Arnold VS. the devil sounds epic ... well in this movie that never happens.

Arnie's powers were already on the wane when he made this, and it's a stinker. Cliche ridden, humourless, overblown and dumb. See The Prophecy instead.

A hybrid of supernatural thriller and cop drama that is too mired in cliche and silliness to be anything but corny and laughable. Arnold is at full cheesy display here and you can tell, when a priest argues that 666 is really 999 (as in 1999) upside down, the year of the Devil's return, that you are in for some ridiculous stuff.

Couldn't Find the Right Footing

I noticed so many plot holes with this picture as I was watching it to the point where I finally gave up and just observed what would happen. I couldn’t help but laugh whenever Arnold Schwarzenegger would try to be sentimental (I actually missed his one-liners in action films!), the fiery special effects, and how bullets can actually stop Satan in his tracks. One of the few good things about this movie, though, was Gabriel Byrne as Satan because he was able to balance humor with sadism. I didn’t care that much for the story or its characters because both aspects are one-dimensional. The film drags on a bit but there were interesting (and creepy) images that could be found every fifteen minutes or so. It’s weird how this movie has a lot of explosions despite the whole …

Satan Deserves Better

Satan bringing the world to an end is a great film concept, that hasn't really been done justice yet. Many reviews I read for this seemed somewhat positive, but I guess they were taken out of context. One review said something along the lines of, "More tense than Exorcist and Sixth Sense and would scare the Hell out of you". Well, that person has probablly never seen the Exorcist, Sixth Sense, or even a ligitimately scary film period. The fact that they tried to make this a combination of an "End of the world" and "Schwarzenegger" film is the major downfall here. The Satanic v.s. Cristian themes is the only really good thing to find in this mostly Arnold action movie. With a "Schwarzenegger" film, it's either hit or miss and this one, as a whole, is a miss.
