Based on a true story, this film is shocking, terrifying, brilliantly acted and scored, and will leave viewers wondering about what happened next to Hershey's character. The book is much better.

The Predator

The Entity is largely a conventional haunted house story, but with a very nasty twist that has earned the film a bit of a reputation. Essentially, this poltergeist doesn't just put terrible visions into people's heads and destroy their furniture; it's a sexual abuser. It's a terribly exploitative angle from which to approach such a conventional horror story, but the film manages to pull it off. As horrible as the scenes of sexual assault get - and they get preeeeeety horrible - always the human behind the suffering is centered. The horror doesn't come from the visual of a female body being penetrated by some ectoplasmic rapist as much as it comes from Carla Moran's increasingly desperate attempts to understand WHY she is having her life destroyed by this 'entity'.
Good flick. Would …
