Despite the great performances and commendable ambitions, "Blue Caprice" never quite breaks the skin covering the ideas it seeks to explore.

'Blue Caprice' takes a much different approach to retelling a tragic event than any film I've seen. The focus is entirely upon the mindset of the two main characters, who eventually end up causing widespread panic with their random murder spree. In a quiet slow build, we see the relationship form between the shooter and his 'mentor'. Isaiah Washington's simmering hatred is the driving force behind the foreboding menace. Everything is conveyed with such plausibility and realism. A commendable showcase of subtle psychological decline.

It's certainly well made and acted. The cinematography is beautiful. But considering the subject matter, Blue Caprice is surprisingly unable to engage. But considering the critical acclaim it has received, I'm probably in the minority here.
