Plot: In the current day, Cassandra, a captive for eight years, works to finally figure out a way to escape or at least contact her family. Flashback eight years to when the 9-year-old was abducted and her father, Mathew, who reports the crime, soon becomes the prime suspect. 'The Captive' is a standard missing child thriller that tries to be different despite no effort to rise above it's poor writing. The beginning takes a few scenes to realize that the story is flipping back-and-forth in time, but this is thrown away immediately and the whole thing dives into the purest form of mediocrity. There is no effort put into showing the long passage of time between events. The acting is average and the directing is flat. This is the most un-thrilling 'thriller' I've seen in a while. Total skip.
