Beautiful music by Ennio Morricone and lush desert vistas cannot sustain the 3 hour length for this sprawling wannabe epic. The dozen or so subplots include the Vatican endorsing a treasure hunt, a sibling rivalry between Ben Cross and Peter Weller, the French Foreign Legion adopting an Arab girl, and my personal favorite is a love triangle that develops between Ione Skye, a nerdy Irish astrophysicist, and a handsome desert prince. Occasionally there is an action scene thrown in to maintain interest from the audience but they're probably asleep by then. Funny thing is I remember this being aired on the Hallmark Channel all the time 9, 10 years ago. I guess they were bored just showing it. Isn't that sad?
