Another non-typical King story - you get heart instead of horror and, for the most part, it works. The cast works great together, with Anthony Hopkins leading the way. It ends quite abruptly, but it is only based on part of book.

This film is like bad sex. One of those films, like Elephant, that builds and builds and builds and builds and ends (without reaching the climax). It develops the characters incredibly well and begins to unravel this story of sexual favors, murder and government secrets as the relationship between a vagabond and a young boy begins to develop into a meaningful friendship. Than out of no where, the vagabond is kidnapped be some government officials and nothing is explained, not what he was, not why he was taken, nothing. A film that builds beautifully and ends no where.

The last thirty minutes or so was a plunge in the unknown for me because the past hour was simply a story about one's childhood with little hints of greatness here and there. Kudos to the writers for providing the audiences likeable characters that one can't help but follow. Although some people think it's a bit too slow for their liking, I think the pacing is not that bad because this is the kind of movie that strives on the unfolding of events. This little gem contains one of the best …
