Funny and sweet natured comedy-drama about a hapless cynic (Hoffman) who becomes a reluctant hero by saving passengers from a plane-crash. But not only does someone else (Garcia) take credit but his criminal past prevents him from telling the truth. Hoffman and Garcia are both good in this playing different sides of the same coin, one a cynic, the other an idealist. As the reporter covering the case and trying to piece things together, Geena Davis is also good and she also looks beautiful in this. As an earnest Frank Capra-esque fable, HERO is a heartwarming and enjoyable viewing.

Rather more intelligent and thought provoking than most Hollywood stories, the satirical spin in Accidental Hero is quite clever, the media and public requiring a noble, square-jawed hero in the shape of Andy Garcia to fulfil their own image of what a hero SHOULD be. Geena Davis is rubbish as usual though (onions? What??)
