Jessica Stein is a woman who just cannot find the right person to have a relationship with. When she reads a quote in the Personal Ads from a writer she likes, she calls the woman, Helen, who placed on a whim. The surprising thing to Helen and the audience is how hard Helen falls for Jessica. A movie ensues that is not as polished or as funny as Annie Hall, nor handles bisexuality as well as Chasing Amy, but is pretty good nevertheless. This film was really interesting to watch. Its very realistic(mainly because its an indie film) and at the same time very fun(lots of intelligent and very interesting conversation).

Kissing Jessica Stein

I ended up liking this film a lot because it's both quirky and realistic. Jessica is someone I can relate to because she has certain neuroses that I have. One can tell that writers put some thought into the story because of its witty script. They don't go for the easy laughs, which I really admired. A lot of the jokes are subtle yet accessible if one pays attention to the film. What I didn't like, though, is the supposed leading man of the movie. Was the audience supposed to like him by the end of the movie? If so, it didn't work because I feel like we didn't get to know him enough. He's still that character that puts Jessica down. I especially liked the ending because it suggests a lot about sexuality and critique about love lives. This is an enjoyable little film that one can cherish …
