Quite the story

I'm assuming you've seen it, so skip this if you haven't.
Utterly engrossing movie about a pair of brothers whose father, who had abandoned the family for reasons unknown, simply shows up one day and takes them on a rough adventure. Or, rather, he allows them to tag along on his adventure, where he randomly degrades them or teaches them or leaves them to learn something on their own. One might view their journey as them being dragged from childhood into manhood, yanked from their mother, learning hard lessons, and eventually freeing themselves from their father as their first act of independence.
