They sold me the flick as the "new american beauty". Ha-ha. Sure. The movie is not good at all. It has its momments, but you can notice how hard it pushes to pretend something that can't reach, not because of the casting, wich is good. Nor the performances, wich are respectable, but because of a very weak script and a poor direction. Watch it without expectations for a good movie.

Very interesting and sometimes a riot

Very intriguing movie with a great plot and even better directing. Strong performances by Glen Close and Dermot Mulroney made it believable and really feel for the characters. Some of the events were so over the top and funny, which helped to keep things interesting. One of these scenes involves a little boy who is dating a Barbie doll and sees them move and talk to him. Though it sounds creepy, it is a riot.
The reason I like this film so much is how the directory Rose Troche slowly reveals what has happened in the past to make all the people the way they are. I found myself trying to piece it together and though all my questions were answered in time it was a little frustrating at times not knowing. But in the end I ended up enjoying this movie a lot more than I thought I wood.
