We're going the VOD route tomorrow - I'll post my response then - I'm not expecting Citizen Kane, but hopefully it offers a few laughs.

i Thought it was pretty silly , kind of austin powers without the winks and the humour. it will make money as everybody is talking about it. it would of sank on release anyway. i cant see this type of movie doing well normally.but then again i never thought the turtles would do well so what do i know :)

Solid opening in limited release ($2.8 million) plus a ton of VOD sales ($15 million and counting) - The Interview isn't going to win any awards but it may at least make back all the money it lost when this whole debacle started.

It looks like Sony has relented (somewhat) and is now opening The Interview in a handful of independent theaters on Christmas. A full listing can be found here: http://https://deadline.c om/2014/12/interview-thea ters-showing-movie-full-l ist-1201334486/It only took chastising from the President of the United States (and a few celebrities and a large chunk of the general public) to change Sony's mind. I see my home state of Nebraska doesn't have any theaters on the list (yet) - but if you live anywhere it's playing, would love to see your review!

Apparently some smaller theater chains were going to play Team America: World Police in place of The Interview, but Paramount wouldn't let them. This whole situation offends me and scares me at the same time. I hear that even the President himself is pist off.

yes its crazy whats next sony not putting out a album cause of lyrical content because some terrorist nutters in some land dont agree with it.where is the line drawn.will religious groups threaten over religious movies to get those stopped as well. its a a road to ruin by stopping the film that opens up every terrorist and nutter out there to try the same thing.sony have made a massive mistake their reputation is taking a beating as well as their profits.if the cinemas wont show it. you still put it out to those that will.they owe it to the film makers the actors and to draw the line.

What really bothers me is the precedent that is being set. Studios have already cancelled a potential film set in North Korea, Pyongyang (that Steve Carrell was set to star in) with Gore Verbinski directing - but whatever may have been is gone - the movie has been scrapped.Blame Sony, blame the theater chains (or the lawyers behind said theater chains), blame our lack of cyber security - but what if the same things happens with, say The Avengers or Star Wars or any other huge blockbuster - or an event like the Super Bowl or The Oscars - if all it takes to shut down a major Hollywood film is a vague threat of violence - real or not - where is the line drawn?I truly hope Sony releases this on VOD or DVD in the near future - but even so, this reaction opens the door for cyberterrorists to shut down pretty much anything they want now that they know the response.

pretty sad that they bow down to tirants though i suspect they were advised to do so, as they dont wish to force things even further regarding that country and the implications it could result to.though the movie seems a a bit stupid anyway .i watched a similar film on tv recently its nothing new, war was a day away oncehats worrying is the terroists will start this next when they dont want a film being shown about bin laden or something. how many times will they back down. that why they should never back down.make the film stand by it or dont make it at all

They should have moved ahead regardless and used the threats in the marketing.  I know I for one would be at least 70% more likely to see a movie if people were threatening violence over it.  I don't like the idea that foreign countries like North Korea have a say in our right to watch movies and display content, that dictators from over-seas can effectively limit our freedom of speech through (probably) empty threats.  Screw Sony for pulling the movie, and screw the major theater chains for refusing to air it.  If this shows up on-demand I'm going to rent it as many times as I can just to make a point.  I don't even care if it sucks.

http://variety.com/2014/f ilm/news/sony-has-no-furt her-release-plans-for-the -interview-1201382167/Wow - this is unprecedented as far as I can remember. The only thing I can compare this to is when Comedy Central decided against running the South Park episode with an image of Mohammed.  That being said - this is quite a disturbing development no matter what side you may take on the issue.
